A former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo has passed away just days before celebrating his 90th birthday.

The news of his death was confirmed by his family in a statement released on Sunday.

A renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, Dr. Olunloyo served in several prestigious roles throughout his lifetime, including as the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic. He was also honored with the titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.

The Olunloyo family expressed their deep sorrow in the statement, which read, “With heavy hearts but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, just a few days before his 90th birthday. His long record of service to the nation and humanity will remain a source of pride to his family and associates.”

The family has asked for privacy and understanding as they begin preparations for a dignified burial.

“Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God.”

The news comes nearly a year after false rumors of Dr. Olunloyo’s death circulated in April 2024.
